Gotta Do Jodhpur In 3 Days || An All Girls Budget Travel To Rajasthan

By

I finally have an updated travel story in the #GuiltyBytesGoesTo section with the only difference is that you won't see a lot of your Miss Guilty in the post! But hey, my bff and my best friend has written the story and this is her 3 day trip to Jodhpur that by the way happened to be super exciting and very well planned. An all girls trip to Rajasthan is possible especially if it is a weekend getaway, want to know how? Continue reading!

Here's Her Travel Diary and Itinerary

Last year, we backpacked to Rishikesh, so this year we decided to give Rajasthan a try. Of all the cities, we wanted to explore the blue city of Rajasthan, Jodhpur. It makes sense to travel to this city during the off season as you not only you get a good bargain anywhere you stay or travel, but you will also find the key cities to be less crowded. This was a budget travel for us and hence we booked our train tickets to Jodhpur well in advance. The trains to Jodhpur originate from Old Delhi Railway station, however they also stopover at the Delhi Cantt station for sometime and that's why boarding became super convenient for us as we live around that area only.

Hotel Haveli
Day 1 - We arrived at Jodhpur early morning and booked a pre-paid auto to our Hotel Haveli, makrana mohalla, which was located 15 minutes from the railway station. The hotel staff was very friendly, and the rooms had a very traditional feel to them. I had already made the reservations online from the goibibo app, and got really cool discounts too!

Around 11 am planned to kick start out tour with the Mehrangarh Fort - largest fort in Rajasthan being the first stopover. The fort was built in 1498 and one requires at least 3-4 hours to take a complete tour of this magnificent fort. It has museums, handicraft stores, a restaurant and cafe inside it that is worth trying!

The hotel staff handed over a map to us with some detailed directions around the area next to fort. We decided to walk our way around the fort and caught some beautiful glimpses of life and culture in Jodhpur.

The evening was reserved for some adventure and we tried our share of thrills with an English owned company 'Flying Fox' that operates a zip tour out of the beautiful Chokelao Gardens within the fort. We made the bookings for the same in advance and got discounts online. You can book the time slot when you want to try the flying fox. There are 6 different ziplines of various lengths and they guarantee fun, speed, and a mesmerizing view of Jodhpur to you.

After a day full of sight seeing and adventure we decided to relax and indulge in scrumptious food. At Jodhpur you will find a lot of rooftop restaurants set against a backdrop of a beautifully lit up Mehrangarh fort. We decided to dine at 'Jhankar Choti Haveli' restaurant which was located within 2 minutes of walking distance of our hotel.

Day 2 - How an all girls trip be complete without some serious shopping? We decided to shop on the day 2 around the Ghantaghar- Nai Sadak, and Sardar Market. Don't forget to buy the famous Bhandhej - a.k.a tie and die saris and dress material. Mojris or Jootis are available at steal deal too. We also visited the National Handloom which is a four story building, with everything to buy under one roof. The prices are fairly marked, and the shopping here is hassle free. While you are shopping, do visit the Janta Sweet House for some excellent sweets and snacks, also don't forget to try the yummy lassi.

Later in the afternoon we headed towards Umaid Bhavan Palace, which was a treat to the eyes.

A part of it has been converted into a museum which is open to public, a part has been converted into a hotel, and the members of the Royal Family continue to reside in the other part of the palace. While you are here, don't forget to see the collection of vintage cars at display, a visual treat.

On The Rocks, Jodhpur
After Umaid Bhavan, we went to 'On the Rocks' for some drinks and dinner. It is located next to Ajit Bhavan palace. The entrance to OTR has a single doorway, however as soon as you enter this place it explodes into a massive area that is further divided into at least six sections. with the options of fine dining restaurants both indoor and outdoor,  pub, and bar. The ambience is impressive. We decided to move into the pub named Rocktails, which offered good drinks, decent food, and a dance floor playing both hindi and english numbers.

Day 3 - In the morning we visited National Law University to some catching up with old friends. We came back to the hotel, ate lunch and were off to Osian- the ancient village in Jodhpur which is approximately 50 kms from the city for a camel safari. We had booked this trip through the hotel itself. Osian is also known as the Khajuraho of Rajasthan, because of the various carved temples located here. It is also an oasis in the Thar desert. The cab booked for us took us from hotel to Osian in about 1 hour and 30 minutes, where we visited the Osiyan temple and then arrived at the sandy part of the village, where our camels were waiting for us.

We started our camel safari, and reached a the most breathtaking sunset point.

The weather was windy and lovely. The sun looked attractive, and it was indeed a romantic end to our 3 day trip in Jodhpur. If only we could go back in time, I wish to go back to that calmness of the sand, that wind, and that setting sun.
