He made his Bollywood debut  in a Mahesh Bhatt film called Aaj. He played a very brief cameo in the film lasting all but ten seconds, where he plays a karate instructor. A source close the actor told a daily that,” His name, Akshay, has a direct connect with his first-ever film. Gaurav’s name in the film was Akshay. He loved it so much that he decided to adopt it as his official name.”
