Renowned designer Ritu Kumar popular among Hollywood and Bollywood beauties is known for her beautiful Indian bridal wear and she is famed for her highly ethnic and regal bridal creations. In an exclusive interview with Wedstreetstyle team the designers talks about the latest bridal wear trends, and shares some tips for the new age bride.

Q.1 what are the latest trends to swear by summer wedding 2016?
Weddings in India have always been an elaborate affair. This season heavy embellished lehengas and saris in classic shades of red and maroon are slowly getting replaced by florals, pastels and bright hues such as blue, orange, mint green etc. Attires with delicate patterns, structured dresses, off-shoulder blouses, crop tops and fringes with the right amount of gold and metallic work are dominating the festivity. It is about lighter fabrics that maintain the classic look but with a contemporary twist.

Q.2 Please elaborate?
Earlier, wedding outfits were dominated by heirlooms, now they’re led by trends. There are wedding photographers waiting to capture your once in a lifetime experience that gets shared with family and friends via social media. Brides and bridesmaids prefer outfits that are on trend as well as match their comfort level. In my opinion, it is best to go for something subtly traditional- with intricate designs in delicate colours.

Q.3 Also, what are the top fabrics a bride must adorn in her look this year?
Nets, georgette, raw silk, chiffon are fit for all season while velvet can be used for winter as it is a bit heavier than the other materials.

Q.4 what tips will you give to brides-to-be in choosing their outfit for that special day?
Don’t be overly trend-driven, a bridal outfit is for keeps (and hopefully an heirloom you would like to pass along). Invest in something that you connect with. Head over to a bridal studio and get comfortable with your outfit, or wear it a couple of times before the wedding. Ensure that you feel comfortable in it. It is your special day and an uncomfortable outfit shouldn’t feature in it.
