One lab that literally opened my eyes towards weight-related checkup is the SRL Diagnostics Lab - that is present across major cities in India and enjoys the status of being the most preferred labs by medical experts. Coming back to the tests, a total of 74 tests were recommended to me including- lipid tests that basically studies Triglycerides, Cholesterol Total. The screening of detailed cholesterol levels can help you understand how cholesterol building up in the arteries can lead to severe health risks. The risk for heart disease can be found with the lipid profile test. Measuring of LDL and HDL cholesterol is useful, as the cholesterol levels can surge after menopause. Triglycerides are also measured in this test which in other words is finding the type of fat found in your blood. Your body uses triglycerides for energy. Other than this there were a liver, diabetes, thyroid and kidney tests along with a few others.

One of the tests that caught my attention was the analysis of stress hormones (Cortisol) in our body. High levels of "the stress hormone," cortisol, can turn your overeating into a habit. Because increased levels of the hormone also help cause higher insulin levels, your blood sugar drops and you crave sugary, fatty foods. Understanding the importance of these tests have helped me devise a better plan for my fitness journey.

Another test which was a part of the SRL Fitness Care package is the vitamin D test. Vitamin D deficiency can be one of the causes of cardiovascular disease, autoimmune diseases, infections, inflammatory bowel diseases, psychological disorders, even some cancers. Measuring it helps in keeping off from bone health risks and osteoporosis too.
